Fan Bearing Types – Weighing the Pros and Cons

Overview

Fans are arguably the most recognized and utilized component for thermal management, having proven to be both efficient and cost-effective at removing excess heat from a system. At the heart of all fans is the fan bearing, which most hold up to thousands of rotations per minute and reliably operate for the full lifetime of the application. This video takes a closer look at the advantages and disadvantages of the two most common bearing designs, the sleeve bearing and ball bearing, while introducing an alternate option developed by CUI Devices called the omniCOOL™ system.
